Biodun Fatoyinbo, Senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, has finally relinquished his enviable position as head of the church which he is the founder.
His resignation came amidst strong allegation of rape leveled again’t him by multiple women who are also members of his congregation. The youthful and flamboyant pastor bowed to pressure as he announced, that he would be stepping down from pulpit, after Busola Dakolo, wife of popular musician, Timi Dakolo, laid a detailed rape account and expose in an exclusive interview with one of Nigeria’s local tv channel.
The Pastor made this announcement in a special written resignation document he posted on his Instagram page. Take a look his resignation release:
“The past few days have been very sobering for me. I have taken time to pray and seek spiritual counsel from Christian leaders around the world who feel very concerned about the ongoing reports in the media. ‘’Drawing from their counsel and that of the leadership of COZA and owing to my love for God’s work and the sacred honour of my calling, I have decided to take a leave of absence from the pulpit of the church. This step enables me to submit to the counsels of my spiritual mentors.”
Meanwhile, there had being widespread protest over his continued resistant and unwillingness to have actually stepped down earlier. On the other hand, the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in 19 Northern states, Abuja and the President of International Church Growth Ministry have condemned the act and were unanimous in their call for the accused pastor to step aside and allow for thorough investigation of the allegations.
Timi Dakolo the musician, who’s wife reported the rape, further revealed that the COZA pastor and some elders in the church were covering the action of the pastor to the point of even paying to silence some victims.
Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo actions Condemned By Christian Unions
The outcome of the rape allegations against the Pastor was an overwhelming condemnation from the Nigerian Christian mother-body and huge percentage of the population who are, or seemingly fed-up with the get-away-with anything attitude that’s often portrayed by many clergy men in similar situations.
As one would expect though, due to the strong christian faith and beliefs of the Nigerian populace, the COZA Church service is going on in its normal routine, and Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo continues to share photos of himself and his wife on his Instagram page to prove that they are unperturbed by the accusations.
