Prime music industry organization RiSA (Recording Industry of South Africa) has announced that its ISRC Code portal that enables independent artists and record labels to generate the codes for their music, will no longer be free. As the saying goes in South Africa, “Nothing for Mahala”, the organization has issued this directive in pursuance to fulfilling its operational costs.
Effective 14 June 2021, RiSA will charge an administration fee of R100.00 (excluding VAT) in order to recover the maintenance and administrative costs of running the system.RiSA
Incase you are wondering what the RiSA portal does, it enables record companies and indie artists to fulfil the below obligations:
- Manage Artist Profiles;
- Have multiple Company users to manage their artist profiles;
- Upload Music Files for artist Tracks;
- Automatically Assign Designation Codes for all their tracks without duplicates;
- Upload historical ISRC Codes;
- Intergrade with the API to programmatically manage records
If you are in the music industry as a record label or independent artist, you would realize that your music needs these codes to certify your ownership. Therefore, this directive from RiSA is something you must comply with for fact that you want your rights of ownership of your music works fully protected.
