Takeoff from Migos Enters the Hot 100 Hit as a Solo
The Atlanta rapper reaches a new career milestone with “Last Memory,” his first solo single to chart on the Hot 100. Produced by MonstaBeatz, the track debuts there at No. 54. It also claims No. 18 on On-Demand Streaming Songs, No. 23 on Hot Rap Songs and No. 25 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
The lead single off Takeoff’s just-released album debut The Last Rocket, “Last Memory” marks his second solo appearance on the Hot 100 and his first as a lead artist. His only other showing there outside of Migos was as a guest on “Eye 2 Eye” off Quavo and Travis Scott’s late 2017 Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho project.
Released via Quality Control Music, Motown and Capitol Records, The Last Rocket features production by DJ Durel, Murda Beatz and TM88, among others. It is the second solo album from a Migos member in as many weeks, following Quavo’s own Quavo Huncho project. Unlike that record, which touted guests as wide-ranging as Nigerian singer Davido and pop icon Madonna, The Last Rocket is short on features, relying instead on Takeoff’s understated delivery over the course of its 35 minute runtime, incidentally half the length of Quavo Huncho.
Arguably the most underrated member of the group, which first broke out with 2013’s “Versace” and subsequently soared to the top of the charts with 2016’s “Bad And Boujee,” Takeoff hasn’t been nearly as active outside of Migos as his cohorts. Quavo has proved the most prolific Migos soloist. Of his 21 Hot 100 showings in a lead or feature capacity, 5 have reached the Top 10, including Post Malone’s “Congratulations” and Liam Payne’s “Strip That Down.” He topped the charts last year as part of DJ Khaled’s “I’m The One,” which situated him alongside Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne. 7 tracks off of his Quavo Huncho album made their way onto the Hot 100, with lead single “Workin Me” peaking at No. 52.
